Where Passion Meets Purpose

The Georgia South Family Medicine Residency Program, established in 2016 by Colquitt Regional Medical Center, is an effort to address physician shortages in underserved areas, particularly in South Georgia. It was the first new residency program in the region in over 20 years. In 2022, Georgia South launched the Psychiatry residency program to meet a growing need for mental healthcare professionals. Since inception, we remain committed to finding physicians with a passion for serving rural communities.

Rapid changes in graduate medical education respond to a variety of forces, including healthcare demands from the public, new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, and changes in certification requirements. Working with our clinical affiliates and program administration, we strive to meet the demands of this changing landscape. We use diverse training opportunities available throughout our region to offer dynamic programs that prepare residents for a lifetime of leadership.

Our Programs

Family Medicine Residency

Georgia South’s three-year Family Medicine Residency Program is dedicated to training physicians to provide the full spectrum of care for rural and medically underserved areas of South Georgia. Twelve residents are involved in the care of patients ages birth to adulthood and are also trained in obstetric care. Each year, we welcome four new residents to the program.

Psychiatry Residency

Our Psychiatry Residency Program, in partnership with Turning Point Care Center, is a rural, community-based program that is institutionally sponsored by the South Georgia Medical Education and Research Consortium. The four-year program provides a comprehensive psychiatric learning and training experience within a diverse and underserved rural community. Each year, we welcome three new residents to the program.
