Steps
Submit your application along with the required documentation through ERAS during traditional application cycles. Your Dean’s Office can assist with this process. Upload the following documents in ERAS with your application:
- United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or Comlex Results
Medical school transcript - Personal statement
- Three (3) letters of recommendation written within the past year from U.S. physicians with whom you have clinical experience, on the physician’s letterhead
- Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
- Curriculum Vitae
Personal interviews are by invitation only and are based on the information in your ERAS application, including:
- Academic performance
- USMLE or Comlex scores*
- Letters of recommendation
- Other accomplishments
*For those with pending results, interviews will be granted at the program’s discretion.
Interviews will be conducted on selected dates during the interview season. Invitations for interviews are extended through the ERAS system.

All match appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Applicants must register through the NRMP website in addition to submitting their application through ERAS.
Residents must be fully credentialed by Colquitt Regional/Georgia South before the commencement of their residency program and before reappointment. As such, programs and residents must comply with appointment and credentialing requirements as outlined in this policy.
Programs and residents must also comply with the credentialing requirements of other participating training sites. Residents may not begin training at those sites until all credentialing documentation required by each site has been received.
Requirements
- Resident applicants must meet or provide the following requirements to be considered for an interview:
U.S. citizenship or permanent resident of the U.S. We do not sponsor or accept any Visas. - Graduation date from medical school preferred within the past five years.
- Current, substantial and credible hands-on U.S. clinical experience. Observerships do not apply.
- ECFMG Certificate, if applicable, before employment. Well-qualified international medical school graduates who are certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) may be considered for admission into Georgia South’s residency programs.
- Appointment to a Georgia South training program is conditional and contingent upon the successful completion of the appointment and credentialing process, which includes:
- Satisfactory completion of the criminal background check process.
- Satisfactory completion of drug/tobacco screens (negative screens).
- Verification of satisfactory prior training (if applicable).
- Eligibility for employment in the United States and in the State of Georgia.
- Eligibility for licensure with the Georgia Composite Medical Board.
- Compliance with all federal standards required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) or other federal and state regulatory agencies. Applicants designated by CMS as “excluded providers” will not be eligible for a residency.
